First women's title for Jana Kovackova!
April 16, 2025
Fourteen-year-old Jana Kovačková celebrates her first professional title in Antalya, Turkey! In the final of the W35 clay tournament with a prize money of 30 thousand dollars, she crushed Bulgarian Denislava Glushkova in one hour and 11 minutes after 6:0, 6:1 sets.
The talented tennis player from Sparta in Prague, who is ranked 11th in the junior rankings and won eight singles and even nine doubles trophies last year, played her second ITF final this year. In February, she reached the final in her debut tournament in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where she even had a match point against the favoured Isabelle Shinikova but eventually fell in the third set tiebreak 7-9.
But she was unstoppable in the fourth professional event of her career. Even though she had to qualify, she put in a fantastic performance and never lost a set in seven matches. In the main event, she successively knocked out Lucija Ciricova Bagaric, Pia Lovricova, Spartan Alisa Oktabreva and Jelyzaveta Kotlyar. And in the final against Glushkova, she gave her best performance of the week.
Janicka completely dominated the court and blasted Glushkova with a canary in the first set, allowing her to gain just eight fifties. At the start of the second set, the Bulgarian managed to stave off a break point and hold her serve through two rallies, but that was it for her throughout the match.
Kovachkova did not allow her another game and ended the match with another string of six games won. With her victory in Antalya, she became the third youngest champion (14 years and 293 days) in W25 or higher tournaments. Only Sesil Karatantseva and Anna Kurnikova were younger.
For her triumph in Antalya, Kovackova will add 35 points to the world ranking. In two weeks, she will have a total of 45 points and will climb somewhere between the seventh and eighth 100 in the world. She will even surpass her older sister Alena, who has 42 points.
